JPD looks into death of Sitka man

A Sitka man died in Juneau last week, possibly from a self-inflicted knife wound, according to a release issued Thursday by the Juneau Police Department.

JPD received a report at 2:52 a.m. on Dec. 13 that a man had been stabbed in the chest in the 5000 block of North Douglas Highway, the release states. He later died at a hospital, but the release does not specify whether that was Bartlett Regional Hospital or if the man was medevaced to another facility.

The release states the man is Byron John Paul, 55, of Sitka.

Witnesses said his death was a suicide, the release states. A police investigation is ongoing.
