Fire & medical

• At 10:51 p.m. Thursday, a patient with abdominal pain on Crow Hill Drive was taken to BRH.


• At 10:18 a.m. Friday, JPD investigated a report of fraud in the Juneau area.

Minor consuming

• At 1:02 a.m. Friday, David Christopher Rose, 19, was cited and released for minor consuming in the 100 block of Marine Way.

Motor vehicle crash

• At 4:59 p.m. Thursday, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am driven by a 41-year-old man struck a 25-year-old man on a bicycle on Vintage Boulevard. The bicyclist complained of minor injuries but declined medical treatment. The 41-year-old man was cited for failure to yield.

• At 9:58 a.m. Friday, a 29-year-old woman reported her vehicle was struck while parked in the 9900 block of Stephen Richards Memorial Drive, causing an estimated $2,000 worth of damage.

Suspicious activity

• At 9:06 p.m. Wednesday, JPD conducted a confidential investigation into a report of a subject tampering with a witness in the Juneau area.


• At 12:20 p.m. Thursday, a 39-year-old woman reported the theft of a gift valued at $356 in the 8700 block of Glacier Highway.

• At 4:31 p.m. Thursday, a 23-year-old woman reported the theft of $50 from her residence in the 1800 block of Northwood Drive. The case does not appear to be burglary-related.

• At 11:03 a.m. Friday, a 52-year-old woman reported the theft of fuel from her residence on Churchill court.


• At 12:56 p.m. Wednesday, Joshua Aaron Lewis, 20, was arrested for criminal trespass in the3200 block of Hospital Drive, and he was taken to LCCC.

• At 11:35 p.m. Thursday, JPD investigated a report of a possible trespass in the 8400 block of Canyon Drive.


• At 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, a 56-year-old man reported a store front window broken in the200 block of Admiral Way, causing an unknown amount of damage.

• At 7:49 a.m. Friday, a 64-year-old man reported an estimated $10 worth of fire damage at the skate park in the 2400 block of Mendenhall Loop Road.

• At 10:39 a.m. Friday, a 61-year-old man reported vandalism to his mailbox on Hayes Way. Damage was estimated to be $50.

This Day in Juneau History: Jan. 22, 1987

On Jan. 22, 1987, Gov. Steve Cowper prepared to discuss the final part of his fiscal plan: budget cuts. The total amount suggested to be cut by his temporary cabinet was $300 million, which tore funding from a variety of different programs. However, although what propositions Cowper accepted were still a mystery, Press Secretary David Ramseur confirmed that the cuts he did accept totaled at about $200 million. Cowper was to give a speech directly to the Alaska Legislature discussing the specifics of his recommended cuts.

Man caught with 3 pounds of meth on Southeast Alaska-bound ferry sentenced to 20 months

A 21-year-old man who was caught transporting three pounds of methamphetamine — reportedly the largest seizure in Southeast Alaska in at least 10 years— on the ferry between Bellingham and Ketchikan last May was “a patsy, plan and simple,” his defense attorney argued.
