One dead, another wounded after Friday night shooting

Posted: December 31, 2011 - 1:24pm

Police say a Juneau man is dead after shooting a woman then shooting himself Friday evening.

The Juneau Police Department stated in a release they received a 911 call from a woman who reported she had been shot inside a residence in the 9000 block of Stephen Richards Memorial Drive around 11 p.m. Friday.

Responding officers found a 42-year-old woman with a gun shot wound to her abdomen at the house and a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the release. Capital City Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.

The woman was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, the release stated.

Police believe the man assaulted the woman then shot himself, according to the release.

An investigation is ongoing.

Come on 2012!

Been one hell of a month in Juneau. January 1st is just another day. But it does seem to click on the "Refresh" button in the minds of many, for a time. Here's to a rash of clicks in our town for a Happy New Year! (Hope that's politically correct.)

@Jo

I'm glad and even "Refreshed" to know that there are other empathetic people towards such tragedies.

Me too, true.

Jo's post is just oozing with empathy. I concur that this is another sad event. Just don't see anything offensive in my post.

My thoughts and prayers

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of both the victims. I pray that Linda has a fast and full recovery and may the lord comfort her.

@JO

What gives? Somebody not wring their hands hard enough for you? How about a new years resolution for you; Promise to live by your own golden rule..... Try not to attack anyone in the new year. If you can even make it for a whole day many people will rejoice!
