Avalanche control measures by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities temporarily closed Thane Road this morning, according to the City and Borough of Juneau's emergency programs manager.
The road was reopend by noon, said Tom Mattice, the city's emergency programs manager and avalanche forecaster. The blasts put some snow on Thane Road that had to be plowed before the road could reopen.

DOT had been shooting over 1/2 hour at the time this article was time stamped. No biggie. They're only lobbing 105 mm Howitzer rounds across the channel and bringing down tons of snow across the road blocking access either way. In '99 it took three days to open the road. Thanks for the warning.
