Man arrested for sexual abuse of a minor

Police say they have arrested a man for allegedly sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl.

Juneau Police Department said in a release Wednesday that Joseph Randy Dennis, 27, was arrested on suspicions of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail.

The arrest stems from an incident reported on Jan. 1, the release stated. The report was filed just a few hours after the alleged crime was committed, according to the release. An investigation is ongoing.

Sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree is an unclassified felony that can carry up to 99 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Presumptive sentencing is between 25 and 35 years if it’s the offender’s first felony conviction; 35 and 45 for a second felony; and up to 99 years for the third.
