Alleged hit-and-run leads to drunken driving arrest

Juneau police arrested a man on six separate counts after he allegedly crashed into another car and fled the scene Thursday night.

The Juneau Police Department received a report at 7:55 p.m. Thursday that a man ran a red light at the intersection of Mendenhall Loop Road and Egan Drive, crashed into another vehicle and then left without stopping, a release from the department states. About five minutes later, JPD officers stopped a vehicle that matched the description of the one that allegedly fled the scene of the accident. Police arrested the driver, 23-year-old Johnathon Cashen, for driving while intoxicated, refusing to submit to a chemical test, leaving the scene of an accident and three counts of reckless endangerment, the release states.

Police took Cashen to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

Taking his place was Kotzebue businessman and Native leader Willie Hensley, whom Gov. Steve Cowper appointed for the position until the 1988 elections.
