Beer burglar found guilty of serious charges

Posted: January 24, 2012 - 10:45pm

After two days of deliberating, a jury found the accused operative of a beer heist guilty of serious charges. The jury read the verdict in Juneau Superior Court on Monday afternoon around 3 p.m., according to court notes.

Michael Rae, 54, was found guilty on three felony charges — first-degree vehicle theft, second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, all class ‘C’ felonies — and a misdemeanor count of third-degree theft.

Prosecutors alleged Rae stole a Breeze In box truck, drove it into the Alaska Brewing Co. building and stole cases and kegs of beer last April. Testimony during the trial revealed the incident caused some $4,500 in physical damage to the building and $8,959 in damages to the truck, as well as $515 in retail of the beer stolen.

Judge Louis Menendez ordered a pre-sentencing report and scheduled a sentencing hearing for March 28.
