Washington state prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old man with first-degree murder for allegedly fatally shooting a Juneau woman in Seattle last month.
Court documents show Jacob Andrew Mommer also faces first- and second- degree robbery charges in connection with the crime that left Ashton Ericka-Marie Reyes, 22, dead in a parking lot in Rainier Beach, a residential neighborhood about 20 minutes south of downtown Seattle.
Mommer is currently being held in custody on $1 million bond.
According to charging documents filed by prosecutors, Reyes was found lying sprawled over the front seat of her car having sustained a gunshot wound to her torso at about 10 p.m. on Jan. 3. She was unconscious and unresponsive when medics found her on scene and was taken to Harborview Medical Center where she died shortly before midnight, according to the documents.
A Seattle Police Department investigation found that Reyes and her boyfriend had arranged to sell the suspects an ounce of marijuana. But during the drug deal, the suspects robbed them at gunpoint and shot both of them.
Reyes’ boyfriend, who was shot in the buttocks and is only identified as J.R. in court papers, survived the incident and called police from a nearby location.
Mommer was arrested Feb. 14 in his Maple Valley, Wash., residence after detectives found his fingerprints on Reyes’ car, according to the charging documents. Detectives also found that Mommer’s phone number is listed in numerous Craigslist postings for the sale of marijuana. Court papers indicate Mommer contacted Reyes’ boyfriend on Craigslist to set up the drug buy.
Court documents show Mommer was charged on Thursday in the Superior Court of Washington for King County and that he is scheduled to be arraigned March 1.
Court records say that Mommer does not appear to have a significant criminal history.
According to her obituary, Reyes attended Juneau Douglas High School and Yaakoosge’ Daakahidi Alternative High School in Juneau and the University of Alaska Southeast. She recently graduated from Everest Community College in Washington state as a registered dental assistant.
Her mother is Terri Reyes of Oregon and father is Rick Reyes of Juneau.
