Whether you’re out shopping for the staples or a stapler this weekend, OfficeMax is holding a grand-opening celebration today that features a three-dimensional rubber band ball cake.
The celebration is also a first chance for people to vote for a local school to receive $1,000 in supplies as part of OfficeMax’s “A Day Made Better” program. Juneau store visitors can vote between Feb. 19 and Feb. 25.
The event happens from noon to 6 p.m., with gift bags for the first 500 customers and the chance to win a Kindle Fire among other prizes and giveaways.
The shindig kicks off Sunday at noon with a ribbon cutting, food and beverages, according to an OfficeMax press release. The cake will be in the shape of a three-dimensional rubber-band ball, an homage to the company’s recent ad featuring Rubberband Man by the Spinners and actor and comedian, Eddie Steeples bit.ly/ybUGAH.
Other gifts include custom-printed business cards, a premium computer tune-up, a TSA-friendly messenger bag and office supplies.
The office supply store is located on the east side of the Nugget Mall for those who have not been by in a while. The store lacks an entrance directly into the main mall, due mainly to differing hours, but also due to the store’s layout, OfficeMax store manager Chuck Collins said.

There were a lot of people
There were a lot of people excited for it. There was probably 60 people standing in line before noon to get in.
It's new Buisness in our community. Jobs and growth are desperately needed. Sure you are not going to get rich working there but you will pick up a lot of skills that will be useful and for some people, this may be the height of their career. It's honest work and the company has good values.
Now We Need
Taco Bell, Applebees, Chilli's and all other popular chain businesses. How about a REAL MALL (sorry to you people who have never ventured out in the real world (the lower 48) but those two joke strip malls are not real malls) Let's make this place LIKE A NORMAL CITY.
This is a capital city, let's act like one...ECONOMIC GROWTH...JOBS (I know the word 'work' scares most Juneau residents) We won't grow as a city by spending most of our waking hours hanging out at the pathetic 5 bars downtown smoking cigarettes, drinking and spending our PFD and other gov handouts.
