Sen. Mark Begich talks with a group during a stop by the University of Alaska Southeast mining training center to try out its new mining simulator, Sunday. Begich said programs like Juneau’s high school mining program introduce youth to different options at an important stage in their growth. “This is an amazing piece of machinery,” Begich said. “It’s a powerful tool to educate young people.”
