Child abuse

• At 4:44 p.m. Wednesday, the Juneau Police Department conducted a confidential investigation into a report of child abuse.

Controlled substance

• At 3:56 p.m. Tuesday, Stephen Dallas Costello, 20, was arrested in the 9900 block of Stephen Richards Memorial Drive for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree. He was taken to LCCC.

Domestic violence

• At 4:48 p.m. Wednesday, a 42-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence assault, and he was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

Driving without a license

• At 10:08 p.m. Tuesday, a 23-year-old man was cited and released for driving without a license in the 3200 block of Hospital Drive, and his vehicle was impounded.

Fire and medical

• At 2:01 a.m. Tuesday, advanced life support was given to a woman on Fritz Cove Road, and she was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital.

• At 6:07 a.m. Tuesday, basic life support care was given to a woman on Lee Smith Drive, and she was taken to BRH.

• At 7:49 a.m. Tuesday, basic life support care was given to a woman on Lawson Creek Road, and she was taken to BRH.

• At 7:53 a.m. Tuesday, basic life support care was given to a woman on Old Glacier Highway, and she was taken to BRH.

• At 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, basic life support care was given to a man on Northwood Drive, and he was taken to BRH.

Service

• At 8:48 a.m. Wednesday, Michael Joseph Schwab, 53, was arrested on a warrant in the 4400 block of Sesame Street for failure to appear for arraignment. He was taken to LCCC.

• At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, a summons was served on a 54-year-old man in the 1700 block of Second Street.

Theft

• At 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, a 19-year-old reported the theft of cash from a wallet in the 1800 block of Shell Simmons Drive.

Trespass

• At 11:39 p.m. Tuesday, Sung Heywood, 18, was cited for criminal trespass in the 4300 block of University Drive.

Vandalism

• At 3:47 p.m. Tuesday, a 22-year-old woman reported the window of her vehicle shattered in the 1400 block of Fourth Street.

This Day in Juneau History: Jan. 22, 1987

On Jan. 22, 1987, Gov. Steve Cowper prepared to discuss the final part of his fiscal plan: budget cuts. The total amount suggested to be cut by his temporary cabinet was $300 million, which tore funding from a variety of different programs. However, although what propositions Cowper accepted were still a mystery, Press Secretary David Ramseur confirmed that the cuts he did accept totaled at about $200 million. Cowper was to give a speech directly to the Alaska Legislature discussing the specifics of his recommended cuts.

Man caught with 3 pounds of meth on Southeast Alaska-bound ferry sentenced to 20 months

A 21-year-old man who was caught transporting three pounds of methamphetamine — reportedly the largest seizure in Southeast Alaska in at least 10 years— on the ferry between Bellingham and Ketchikan last May was “a patsy, plan and simple,” his defense attorney argued.
