Alaska State Troopers say the man who was injured in an avalanche in Haines on Tuesday died Wednesday afternoon at about 1:43 p.m.
Troopers identified the man as 26-year-old Nick Dodov of Truckee, Calif.
Dodov was taken to Seattle to receive medical care after being pulled from the snow Tuesday, and his condition was listed as “critical” earlier on Wednesday, Troopers said in a dispatch.
According to the Troopers, Dodov and a heli-skiing guide from Colorado were two people in a group of six heli-skiiers who were buried in the avalanche on Takhine Ridge off Haines Highway Tuesday morning.
The heli-skiing guide, who has been identified as Robert Liberman, 35, of Telluride, Colo., died on scene, Troopers said.
Another group of heli-skiiers was nearby and assisted with recovery efforts. Troopers said all of the skiers were wearing beacons at the time of the incident, and all are out of the field and accounted for.
