Correction

An article on page A1 of Tuesday’s Empire incorrectly stated how funds for the Federal Emergency Management Agency are allocated for disasters and mitigations. City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Coordinator Tom Mattice said they are allocated on a per-state basis and if a disaster strikes, more funds are allocated to that state for mitigation.

This day in Juneau history: Feb. 19

On Feb. 19, 1987, Gov. Steve Cowper and the Alaska Legislature formed a budget plan for the upcoming year. The House Finance Committee passed a bill giving Gov. Cowper permission to spend the $428 million reserve fund, and representatives described meetings with Gov. Cowper “wonderful”.
