Downtown traffic delays expected March 29

The Office of the Governor will be hosting an “Alaskans Choose Respect” event next week, which will shut down some downtown traffic for about half an hour.

According to a release from the Juneau Police Department, the event will be held at noon Thursday. Traffic on Fourth Street between Main and Seward Streets will be closed from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

At 12:15 p.m., participants will begin the march by turning left onto Main Street from Fourth Street. Walkers will be occupying the width of the street on the following route:

• Main Street to Egan Drive

• Egan Drive to Marine Way

• Marine Way to Marine Park

The walk will conclude at about 1 p.m.

The release states significant traffic delays can be expected for the duration of the march. Fourth, Main, Third, Second, Seward and Front Streets, plus Shattuck and Marine Way will be closed alternatively for up to 30 minutes.

Juneau police help prevent man from jumping off bridge

Juneau police officers talked a suicidal man from jumping off the Douglas bridge Friday night, and took him to the hospital for evaluation, according to police.
