The Juneau School District and Juneau Education Support Staff have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract. The current three-year agreement between JSD and JESS expires on June 30.
Other details on the agreement will not be made available until both JESS and JSD have ratified the new contract.
Current negotiations began on Jan. 10. The JESS bargaining unit is the district’s second-largest employee association, representing more than 300 of its 745 staff members. JESS membership includes office and instructional support staff, school nurses, RALLY employees, as well as maintenance and custodial personnel. JESS is a local affiliate of the Alaska Public Employee Association and American Federation of Teachers.
The JESS membership is scheduled to vote on the new contract on April 14. The Juneau School District Board of Education vote will take place within a few days of that meeting.
