DZ selects JDHS teacher as assistant principal

Dzantik'i Heeni’s newest assistant principal will be Juneau-Douglas High School teacher Kristy Germain.

Germain has taught social studies and English at the high school since 2003. She also taught for a year at Floyd Dryden Middle School. She has been the JDHS student government adviser since 2008 and has a master’s degree in educational leadership and Master of Arts in teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast. Germain also holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Albertson College in Idaho. Germain is also a JDHS graduate and was born in Juneau.

“I am excited to continue to work with students in Juneau in this new capacity at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School," Germain stated in a release. "DHMS is a great school with dedicated staff and supportive parents and community members. The creative and enthusiastic students make DHMS a positive place to be and I look forward to being a part of it.”

Germain was one of four candidates for the position, which is opening at the end of the year as current assistant principal Gary Campbell is going back to teaching.
