Alaska Airlines was the third most punctual major North American airline in March, the online flight status website FlightStats.com announced Wednesday.
Passengers made a timely arrival at their gates an average of 84.53 percent of the time that month. This is up slightly from its Jan. 15 to March 15 average of 84 percent.
Flights are considered delayed if they depart or arrive more than 15 minutes late.
North American carriers, as a whole, arrived on time 76.77 percent of the time in March. Alaska Airlines’ 84 percent did not place the airline in the top 10 of this bunch. However it ranked only behind US Airways, at 86.99 percent, and Delta, at 84.96 percent, as the most punctual major carriers.
On the day of the announcement, 93 percent of Alaska Airlines arrivals and departures at the Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage were on time, while flights in and out of Juneau’s airport were on time 88 percent of the time.
The airline had approximately 1,500 flights delayed since March 4.
Alaska Airlines won the FlightStats.com 2011 on-time performance award for their dependable flight record in 2011.
