Central Council announces new CFO

Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska announced its appointment of Theresa Belton as the Tribe’s acting chief financial officer on Thursday.

As acting CFO, Belton holds the department reins until the tribe fills the vacant position, according to a release from the tribe.

Belton was appointed from within the tribe’s Finance Department, where she accrued eight years of experience, according to the release. She comes with experience with the tribe’s accounting software, accounting rules and structure.

She served as the tribe’s controller for three years and has worked as a financial system analyst for the tribe since February.

Belton replaces former CFO Steve Malin. He resigned Tuesday.

Gulth Tint is Belton’s Tlingit name. She is an Eagle of the Chookaneidí, or Glacier Bear clan.
