Police say a 34-year-old local man was injured in a car crash early Thursday morning near the 23 mile of Glacier Highway.
Police said in a release they responded to the single vehicle wreck at about 7:20 a.m. and found Nicholas Long trapped inside his 1996 Ford Explorer.
Long was extricated from his vehicle by members of the fire department and was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries, the release states.
The extent of his injuries was unknown, but BRH spokesman Jim Strader said Long was treated and released the same day.
A police investigation found that Long, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was driving inbound on Glacier Highway at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, the release states.
Police said he drove off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected, then drove across the road into oncoming traffic and off the opposite side of the roadway. His vehicle began rolling along the ditch.
Police said alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing. Police were not available to comment Thursday afternoon on whether any citations were issued, or if charges were pending.
The crash shut down Glacier Highway to vehicular traffic for about 45 minutes.

Lucky to be alive to see Friday for both of them, now I hope they have to repay the full cost of the emergency services. That alone might make him think twice before doing it again.
Heck of a good idea....
Having the dumb pay for emergency services when they cost the taxpayers money for a really STUPID move.....kinda like paying for a rescue when you fall off a dock fighting over wiskey....or some community service till the bill is paid in full!
Early morning drinking:
Alcohol, 0720 in the morning. This guy has a problem.
WOW,
a judgemental bunch of perfect people today aren't you.
Who's to decide whats "dumb" and requires restitution and not.
You all seem to be quite adapt at judging others with no facts so you should be on the panel.
Of course your relatives and friends would be immune because we all know those that judge without facts also believe and support favoritism, and prejudice dont we.
Dang, here I am sounding just like you.
a judgemental bunch?
@slegnawons
Actually, if somebody in my family was that stupid* then the comments section of the JE would be the least of my concerns.
*13 times in court for DUIs, wreckless driving, drugs, domestic violence, sexual abuse of a minor...it's all public record. Just look it up in the court records public access site.
People get all judgmental on
People get all judgmental on the internet because it makes them feel better about themselves. It's about ostracizing those who have done poorly from the group, which in turn reinforces your own membership.
It's really no different from the "boys only" and "girls only" clubs we all had as children. Except, of course, these people are supposedly adults.
judges and clubs
Those silly judges being all judgmental.
And those poor people living in prisons are being ostracized from the "we follow rules are a benefit to society" club.
sooo unfair...
If I know my civics--and I
If I know my civics--and I do--the judicial system metes out punishment appropriate to a person's crime.
You and the rest of the peanut gallery mete out your own punishment that actually hurts society by preventing convicts from being able to get their lives back on track and providing them with no incentive to want to (why would they want to go through what is already a monumental effort to get their lives in order when everyone who already is well off [filtered word] on them from above?).
This is no different than throwing rotten vegetables at the thief in the stockade. Or yelling "[filtered word]!" at the woman who's been branded with an "A."
It really does make me sick. It's ironic that free speech, one of the pinnacles of civilization, shows just how uncivilized we actually are.
Then you don't know civics
Comment section = public forum
You take part in it as well. Sometimes in support of somebody and sometimes against.
If you want to use the word irony, reread your comment, then other comments you have posted on other issues.
Judging someone for the
Judging someone for the horrible things they've said anonymously on the internet is quite different than excorciating someone who is already being punished through the proper channels.
You're rationalizing. "Everyone else does it" is not a valid excuse for your own behavior.
PP you're a twit. And, I'm
PP you're a twit. And, I'm not being judgmental. I'm just stating fact.
Persnickety Persimmon ?
He is more than a twit, he must still be behind the wrong prison wall. the only time he respond's is to stick up for the criminals which obviously live very close to him.
At some point
At some point it we need to stop trying to rehabilitate chronic offenders and just lock 'em up and be done with 'em.
P.P., wow I thought it was female
Go figure.
I think that the old way was the best way. This 20+ year wait to complete an order of execution is stupid first and expensive second.
Why do offenders have a better life than law abiding citizens? Oh yeah they have reduces\d freedom to go around and re-commit thier crimes. They have 3 squares a day, fre medical, free, housing, free, free, free,,,,,,,
Clear out the prisons and not by the catch and release program used today but not by the long term storage for the major offender either.
wow
hmmm ,turn the page...
Always stick to the safety measures
This is such an unfortunate happening to the glacier high way but this alway mean that we have to come up with the precaution during accidents or before an accident is about to took place. The proper way of tuning your car is one of the things that you should bear in mind especially these days. Good thing we have the standard measures for car maintenance and the help of auto parts retailers that deal parts for automotive would also benefit. There are times that we also need to check ourselves before getting into the steering wheel and drive all the way.
Stating that alcohol was a
Stating that alcohol was a factor in the crash seems a little ambiguous. Could the police have released more detailed reports? Was he actually drunk when he was driving? Or was he still below the limit but had slowed responses?
