Sealaska Heritage Institute is looking for able and willing bodies to volunteer time and talent to its biennial festival of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian tribal members. (bit.ly/IkNPYf)
Celebration is a biennial festival of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian tribal members organized every two years by Sealaska Heritage Institute.
The 2012 Celebration is scheduled for June 7-9. It’s theme is “Strengthen Yourself” or Ayanaltseenáa in Tlingit, Án hl is daguyáa in Haida and Lip sha gotgyednshm, Tsimshian.
The Juneau event began in 1982. It celebrates and showcases Southeast Alaska Native traditions and customs. And encourages individuals, families, clans and communities to participate in traditional song and dance, arts and crafts and the revitalization of Native languages, according to SHI website.
Register by May 11 to include your name in the program. Volunteers must register prior to Celebration.
Sealaska Heritage Institute’s final volunteer meeting is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. May 9 at Centennial Hall’s Hickel Room.
