Money dispute prompts early a.m. gunshots in the valley

JPD: Jack Joseph Paine Jr. arrested for weapons misconduct

Posted: May 17, 2012 - 1:42pm

A man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly firing three rounds from a 9 millimeter semi-automatic pistol in the 400 block of Slate Drive a little before 2 a.m.

Police said there were no reported injuries.

“Nobody was hurt and it appears as though no property was damaged, but we are still investigating the case,” Juneau Police Department spokesman Lt. David Campbell said.

According to police, Jack Joseph Paine Jr., 29, was arrested shortly after three separate 911 callers reported hearing gunshots around 1:47 a.m. in the area of Slate Drive, which is off Mendenhall Loop Road.

Responding police officers located witnesses on scene, and found out the suspect was reportedly driving a gold station wagon, according to police.

Police said they located the station wagon speeding at about 70 miles per hour inbound on Egan Drive near Channel Vista Drive at about 2:12 a.m.

Officers pulled over the vehicle, which had three occupants — Paine, a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman — in the parking lot of the Marine Tech Center across from Juneau Douglas High School, according to police.

An investigation revealed there was a dispute about money, which allegedly prompted Paine to shoot off the three rounds. The details of the argument are still unknown at this point, Campbell said.

Paine was arrested on suspicion of third-degree weapons misconduct, two counts of fourth-degree weapons misconduct and interfering with a police officer. He was taken to jail and is being held without bail, police said.

The names of the two other occupants of the station wagon were not released. Campbell said they were not charged with any crimes, although it is possible they could be at a later time.

“The investigation is not complete,” Campbell said.

Juneau

More than meets the eyes & ears. Juneau is on a spiral of violence & has a war-making system where currupt police protect & serve their job securities. Meanwhile, reccesion, greed, money go high, while moral values turn vigilante for a piece of bread. Thou shall not steal my bread & butter. "If a man gives to his neighbor money or goods to keep safe, and it is stolen from the man's house, then, if the thief is found, he shall pay double." Exodus 22:7

corrupt Police?

ughgitis, Where did you get this information? I happen to personally know most of the JPD officers and they are far from corrupt. Most give too much to this community and their jobs to protect us. Example: Troy Wilson, great man, gave too much of himself, and lost it! God Bless you Troy! God Bless our police officers that put their lives on the line everyday to protect us and our community!

Unfortunately this town is riddled with such a high drug problem.

Look @ his history... it screams the need for jail time

http://www.courtrecords.alaska.gov/eservices/?x=Nz8HTdufc-GRiGt-6UOeeQ I know first hand that this person pulled/pointed what was a lesser caliber gun than what he was caught with (this time) at a kid/teenager and got away with it within the last 9 years 1JU-04-00410CR. Now he's graduated to a bigger caliber and accepted the risk that it didn't matter if he hit anyone or not. It is only a matter of time before this person really hurts someone, obviously he has anger issues and is hiding behind a gun. He has several traffic charges against him, why is he still driving? Yes the police has done their job, now it's time for the courts to do theirs and protect and serve our public. I'm sure people will stick up for him in this blog but the court records speak for itself.

Hopefully the judicial system

Hopefully the judicial system will see fit to place this individual in the custody of the Department of Corrections for a substantial period of time. With any luck, said individual will properly utilize that time to rethink his life.

hmm

"The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." -- Proverbs 22:7 <-- this is what he should have been thinking, but instead... he was all amped up watching "Pulp Fiction" and was thinking this one:
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee." -- Ezekiel 25:17

I see I have offended or maybe even sparked interest in this matter. I genuinely retract the statement I made about "corrupt police," and I do believe the police did their jobs to protect the public in this situation. My hobby is not to quote the bible, it's investigative journalism. But...I intentionally jumped the gun. I strictly commented on the basis of this article, not evidence, not facts, but now I will. I also would like to write...maybe I wasn't the only one who jumped the gun in assumptions. A list of questions to ponder, no need to comment...but if you must, by all means, please do.

1. Where in the article does it state that Mr. Paine shot at a house? Clearly somebody knows more...
2. Whose house did the incident happen in the 400 block of Slate Drive, if any?
3. Were all three callers in the 400 block of Slate Drive?
4. Is the gold sation wagon registered to Mr. Paine?
5. Who was driving the car? Mr. Paine, the 26 year old man, or the 27 year old women?
6. Who were the other occupants?
7. Did Mr. Paine have the gun on him when he was arrested? Well, I'm geussing yes because their are 2 counts of weapons misconduct.
8. Mr. Paine has a prior lesser caliber gun charge against him. I assumed because of his past record, he is not able to own a firearm? If so, Whose gun did Mr. Paine allegedly shoot? Where did Mr. Paine get the gun? Did Mr. Paine have the gun prior to the incident In the 400 block of Slate drive or did he get the gun in the 400 block of Slate Drive?
9. Why was Mr. Paine out of jail on a "cash only" $5,000 bail, the same day of the incident?" If so, "Money dispute"? Clearly Mr. Paine has resources. You see, when I read about the money dispute, I assumed Mr. Paine was collecting on a dept? Maybe, maybe not?
10. Was Mr. Paine under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the incident happened?
11. If alcohol was a factor, did Mr. Paine drink prior to arriving in the 400 block of Slate Drive or was he drinking in the 400 block of Slate Drive, and another if so, where did he get the alcohol? In the 400 block of Slate Drive?
12. If drugs were a factor, was Mr. Paine under the influence of any illegal drugs prior to arriving in 400 block of Slate drive or was he using illegal drugs in the 400 block of Slate Drive? If so, Where did he get the drugs? In the 400 block of Slate Drive?

And that is all I have...for now.
