TLC's graduation and awards ceremony set for Friday

The Learning Connection will hold its annual ceremony for GED graduates, English as a second language and citizenship students at 6 p.m. on Friday. The event, themed “Celebrate Success” recognizes the achievement of the adults enabled by TLC to continue their education.

The ceremony, which will be held at the Elizabeth Peratrovich (formerly ANB) Hall at 320 West Willoughby Ave., will feature commencement speaker University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor John Pugh. Danielle Uehara will introduce him.

A new GED Hall of Fame recipient will be announced by Marie Olson of the GED Alumni Association. The Volunteer of the Year Award will be announced by English Language and Citizenship instructor Heather Parker. Also recognized will be the volunteer and student match of the year.

There will be student speakers representing the English language and GED students. The processional will be led by the City of Juneau Pipe Band and the evening will end with closing remarks by SERRC Executive Director Sheryl Weinberg and a celebratory dance by the Woosh-ji-een dance group.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate the success of the graduating students and award recipients. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6 p.m., though students participating in the ceremony should RSVP and arrive at 5 p.m. to prepare. To RSVP or for more information, please call 586-5718.
