3 arrested in connection to liquor store burglary

Police arrested three suspected burglars Wednesday after surveillance video captured them breaking into a downtown liquor store, according to police.

Police said in a release they received a report of a burglary alarm at Kenny’s Liquor Market on West Willoughby Avenue at about 3:52 a.m. Wednesday.

Responding officers found broken glass around the front door, but no one was inside the store, according to the release.

A store employee arrived at Kenny’s to show officers surveillance footage, the release states.

Lt. David Campbell, a Juneau Police Department spokesman, said the footage showed four people approaching the store’s front door, and one person breaking the glass with a large rock.

“After the rock was thrown through the window, two subjects were seen crawling through the window entering the store,” Campbell said in an interview.

Campbell said they took four bottles of alcohol — three bottles of vodka and one bottle of Jeremiah Weed, which is a brand of liquor.

A few minutes later at about 4 a.m., a tip from a caller came in and led officers to a group of people drinking alcohol at Cope Park.

Officers identified the four that were seen in the video footage and arrested three of them in connection to the burglary, police said.

Campbell said Clifford Brown, 22, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, for throwing the rock through the window.

The two subjects seen crawling through the window, 25-year-old Derek Totemoff and 18-year-old Vivian Wright, were both arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, a felony, and fourth-degree theft, a misdemeanor.

All three were jailed, police said.

Campbell said the fourth person, a 19-year-old woman whose name was not released, was not arrested or charged with a crime since she stayed outside the building.

Campbell said police are still investigating the crime.
