Yet another building that will be empty and useless come September.
Yup
My thoughts exactly. Wish they'd build such cool buildings for the residents.
How was this one funded? Cruise tax dollars I hope. Or better yet, private funding.
Plywood shack or destination jewel?
Certainly, visitors to Alaska's capital should be met with a plywood hut with an attached porta-potty. Come on, guys, Juneau could be the jewel of Alaska tourism. Imagine the delight of Sunday's visitors under beautiful blue skies. What's wrong with a few funds to spruce up the visitor's center? Tourism is a huge part of Juneau, the Southeast, and Alaska as a whole. Money well spent.
Big windows face the wrong direction...
The nice view of the parking lot and tourist traps is certainly worthwhile, but it would be better if it faced a ginormous wall of of cruise ship on the channel side.
Looks great!
Our Port looks better than ever! The airport visitor's center and now this new facility represent our Juneau well.
Nice new facility
except for the "barker stands". I walked downtown yesterday admiring the new facility and seating area. Then I noticed the row of huts consipicuously between the parking area and dock for all the whale watching and other local tour operators. Really? The city builds a multi-million dollar facility and then installs a row of carnival barker stands? Classless.
It's like taking a Happy Meal to a banquet.
