Photos: Canoes carry clans to Celebration

Members of the Auke Bay clan and hundreds of others greet six canoes arriving at the Auke Recreation Area beach in a Coming Ashore ceremony on Wednesday. The event was sponsored by The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Behavioral Health/Suicide Prevention Program, the One People Canoe Society and Goldbelt Heritage Institute.  Those canoes signaled the "unofficial kickoff to the official events" of Celebration, a festival of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures sponsored by the Sealaska Heritage Institute.
