Dan DeRoux touches up plaster patches in the Bill Ray mural on City Hall on Sunday. DeRoux said plans are to replace the crumbling paster mural, originally painted in 1986, with a photographic copy printed on aluminum next fall.

Add commentrepeated typo
Shouldn't that be 'plaster'? I'd call it a typo except the same error was made twice which sounds like the reporter (and editor who presumably proofread this) simply doesn't know what they're doing.
Yes, but
it passes spell-check, so it must be OK. Really, the standard of proofreading at the Empire has gone downhill. Comments, Mr. Moses?
Hmmm. Paster
Paster - Definition
1. One that applies or covers with paste.
2. A paper sticker.
I suppose that could be what he is doing. Keep the kids away, they may just want to eat it! :-)
I can't believe there isn't
I can't believe there isn't anything better to add to this particular photo/story than to point out what may be a typo. I'm sure none of those who are putting JE on blast for this have ever sent any written document out that had some kind of error on it.
Would have been nice to
Would have been nice to reference the meaning of the mural, who painted it, etc. Plus, yes we make mistakes, but we aren't professional writers who are also being edited by a professional editor... Some stuff sneaks past no doubt, but there seems to be a hidden freeway for the mistakes to sneak by on.
Typo only occurred once
It's clear that the caption under the picture and the text of the "article" are exactly the same. So, technically, the typo only occurred once and then was copied and pasted.
While I agree with akbrdguru's main point, this happens so often in the Empire (and other news outlet) stories that it is almost comical. Almost.
Typo in the caption of this
Typo in the caption of this stand-alone photo has been fixed!
Bill Ray Mural???
Bill Ray the Senator never painted anything as far as I know--Juneau was happy to let his son do whatever he wanted ; hence the clam man by Bill Ray junior. Let some good young Juneau artist paint over this example of political nepotism.
Amy
As I type this comment at 6:17 pm Tuesday, the typo in the caption has NOT been corrected (paster is still paster). Was there another typo corrected or is this some kind of time warp thingy?
