Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska announced it has hired a new chief financial officer and a new controller.

The Council’s new CFO, Theresa Belton, graduated from the University of Alaska Southeast with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. She worked for more than eight years in the Council’s Finance Department.

As CFO, Belton will provide oversight of the Tribe’s finance personnel, fiscal management, general fund budget, and financial reporting. In addition, she will review and negotiate the tribe’s indirect cost proposal and oversee indirect and internal budgeting and accounting procedures.

Belton’s Tlingit name is Gulth Tint and she is an Eagle of the Glacier Bear clan (Chookaneidí clan).

Michael Halverson is Central Council’s new controller. Promoted from his previous position as grants administrator with the Finance Department, Halverson will manage day-to-day accounting functions. He and Belton will work together to produce special projects like the tribe’s annual audit and indirect cost proposal.

Halverson is retired from employment with the state of Alaska and the University of Alaska. He attended the University of Puget Sound.
