The Alaska Marine Highway System announced today that the FVF Fairweather will sail roundtrip from Juneau to Skagway on Sept. 7 to accommodate the increased demand from Klondike Road Relay participants.
According to a release from AMHS, the Fairweather will depart Juneau at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, arriving in Skagway at 4:30 p.m that same day. This will be in addition to the normally scheduled M/V Malaspina sailing that will depart Juneau en route to Haines and Skagway at 7 a.m., also on Sept. 7.
“We have been monitoring the demand for travel to the Klondike Road Relay and have determined that it exceeded our scheduled capacity,” said Michael Neussl, Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Deputy Commissioner for Marine Operations. “I’m pleased to announce that the AMHS staff was able to find an acceptable solution to help those travelers wishing to participate in the event get to Skagway.”
The fares for the special run will be the same as they are for any other normally scheduled sailing between Juneau and Skagway, the release stated.
Travelers are encouraged to make reservations in advance either online at FerryAlaska.com, by calling 1-800-642-0066, or visiting the ferry terminal staff in Juneau or elsewhere throughout the system. Additional fare information is available online or from reservations agents.

Just FYI - the Fairweather sailing isn't showing up on the website yet so you have to call to reserve. And they aren't offering a fast ferry back from Skagway on the 9th. The only ferry back to Juneau on the 9th is the Malaspina leaving at 415 pm and getting back to Juneau at 11pm. Glad to have the fast ferry at least one direction ... wish we had it both directions!
