Motorcyclist crashes into guardrail Friday

Police say a motorcyclist sustained serious injuries after crashing into a guardrail on Glacier Highway near Fritz Cove Road Friday afternoon.

Lt. David Campbell said the 55-year-old driver, Jerry Mahle, was taken to the hospital with injuries to his left leg, including a broken femur.

Campbell said multiple witnesses called 911 to report the accident around 1:20 p.m.

Police determined the crash was caused due to excessive speed near a curve in the road.

Campbell said he didn’t know if Mahle was wearing a helmet.
