I support the unions.

If what they say are true, Celebrity would be wise to heed the unions' concerns.

Those guys holding the signs

Those guys holding the signs are good guys. I know them. I would appreciate it if the news service would do a better job of outlining the issues that they are protesting about. How is the cruise line violating the law?

I believe it has to do with

I believe it has to do with mooring the ships. The long-shore man should be doing this however the crew has taken over the job. I’m sure there is more to this then just that. But hey, it’s called sharing the wealth. Before rocks are thrown, I’m on the shore man’s side. Stay with it guys.

The Job you save could be yours

Given that our federal government (House and Senate) has sold us out by, one, enacting all kinds of guest worker visas such as the H-1B to reward those companys who contribute to them, and two, by failing to enforce current laws which protect American workers, everyone should seek to educate themselves as to what is going on in this country before you loose your job due to such Federal legislation. These visas have been enacted and continue to come up in the house and senate for no other reason than to keep the current senators and congressmen in power. Go to Google and search for 'H-1B abuses' and you will start to get the picture. Many American citizens have lost their jobs, homes, possessions and even their lives due to the consequences of these visas. Get educated and get active. The job that you save could very well be your own.

More misstatements

If the cruise ships are violating federal law why are the unions not protesting the border patrol, coast guard and senator begich?

Seems strange right? Hmmmmmm. Maybe senator begich the border patrol and the coast guard think the union is wrong!

Where is Obama administration on this? Hey empire how about a story with interviews of federal agencies.

Wow Popeyes

You complain about US House and Senate but don't mention Barack Husein Obama's efforts to allow ILLEGAL aliens to take our low paying jobs?

Hey Popeye how about working on our commercial fisheries processors to stop hiring legal aliens? Oh maybe because we need them!

Noticed that Seattle's Unions are out there in support...

which is admirable. But anyone living in Seattle has learned to view cardboard placards through peripheral vision. Honestly folks, the 'in your face' protests are so behind the times.

Wishing for better coverage

Sad there is no actual story to go with this. I believe they staged a similar protest last year. Sad the city is allowing essentially foreign scabs to work here. Pathetic the paper treats it to just a picture. I believe the jobs of our neighbors is of greater import than an airlifted taco truck.

Please follow up on this, it is important to support the local workers and we need to understand their complaint.

The cruise lines are very

The cruise lines are very powerful and unintersted corporations. Any lawsuits cast or charges filed and they claim altered identities and homeport differences. As with people who get food poisoning from their quite unhealthily stored goods. I'm pretty sure they will retire to their common place usage of 'we aren't subject to you laws or rules' BS. As long as the needed semi-rich ticket buyers keep coming, they will keep doing any and all exactly as they please. The few protests seen are just so much flotsam and viewed with a sort of humor. My family is a victim of trying to sue these people and it is a nightmare nobody needs. Sadly, the workers are getting it in the proverbial poop deck. Without very much recourse. Empire I am embarrassed for you by this too small and needed more article, expand and inform please???

No facts to the "story"

How can anyone make any sort of judgement at all with no facts? This was one very sparse story.

It is not very honest to try to make up facts that are just not there. There are literally thousands of good people associated with the cruise lines in Juneau ( I am not btw).

I do know that in general the cruise lines do their very best to be good neighbors in Juneau. Year in and year out they have gone above and beyond the call of duty to be an active part of Juneau. If there is something that needs to be done and really should be done, just call on Mr. Kirby Day. Behind the scenes, they have been there to help groups and causes here that you never really know about because it does not make for good news to say something positive and good about someone. It does not sell so well as bad news. For over 20 years that I know about, he has been the go to guy to help you. He works for most of the cruise lines in some capacity. And he has been exemplary.

I would certainly like to see the facts here in this case. There are a lot of people who hate cruise lines in general and are watching their every move and every action. What did they miss? Please JE, get some real and honest facts. Thanks.

The long longshoreman’s

Unpublished

The long longshoreman’s union needs to be BROKE!
They resist any technological changes that might reduce the number of members, i.e. computers.

misstatements?

@concerned, where in the article did you see a false statement? Could it be you just felt it necessary to inject your own politics into what you felt like was a related issue? Here's a hint: your issues are not related to this particular one.

Your concern for the shoremen are as limited as your understanding of the federal immigration laws. Keep your own short-sided opinions of unrelated issues to yourself. Read the article first, if need be, so you don't make this mistake in the future.
