Meth find results in two arrests

Two men were arrested, one on drug charges and the other for a weapons violation, after postal inspectors found a suspicious package that contained methamphetamine Thursday and law enforcement agencies began days of investigative work.

On Thursday a suspicious package heading to Juneau was intercepted by a U.S. Postal Inspector. The package was seized and a search warrant was issued to open it. The package contained about six ounces of methamphetamine and was turned over to the Juneau Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit.

On Saturday, the package without the drugs was picked up and delivered to a residence located at the 9400 block of Moraine Way. At approximately 10:15 p.m., Darrell Dawson, 43, of Juneau came to the residence on Moraine Way and retrieved the package. He was contacted by Juneau police officers and found to be in possession of a baggie that contained a substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine and weighed 4.8 grams. He was arrested for misconduct involving controlled substances. Dawson was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held without bail.

Just after midnight on Sunday, officers executed a search warrant at Dawson’s shop, located at the 300 block of Village Street. Four people were inside the shop. Juneau resident Nicholas DeTemple, 24, was found to be in possession of a pair of metal knuckles, a prohibited weapon. He was placed under arrest for misconduct involving weapons and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center. He was held on $500 bail.

Agencies that worked on this case also included Alaska State Troopers, the FBI, the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service and Southeast Alaska Chiefs Against Drugs (SEACAD).
