3-car wreck sends one to the hospital for injuries

A 72-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after a three-vehicle accident near the Fred Meyer store Monday, according to police.

The Juneau Police Department said in a release they responded to the accident at the Egan Drive and Yandukin Drive intersection at 3:25 p.m.

The release states an investigation found a 1993 Dodge truck driven by Jerry W. Lewis, 72, was traveling inbound on Egan Drive, turned left onto Glacier Highway and collided with a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage that was traveling outbound.

Police said the impact pushed the Dodge into the outbound acceleration lane from Fred Meyer, where it swiped a 2000 Chevrolet truck pulling a boat and trailer.

Police say Lewis was treated for injuries at the hospital, and BRH spokesman Jim Strader said Lewis was released at about 7:30 p.m.

Police say they cited Lewis for failure to yield when turning left.

Police estimated the damage to the Dodge was at $1,000 and damage to the Chevrolet, $5,000. The Mitsubishi was totaled.

Police could not be reached for comment.
