The Empire reported in an Aug. 5 story that an assistant district attorney argued in court during bail arguments that Russel S. Griffin posed public safety concerns, especially since his wife is a Girl Scout Leader.

Anne Gore, the Director of Communications for the Girl Scouts of Alaska, says Griffin’s wife is not a Girl Scout Leader. She is a parent volunteer with their daughter’s Girl Scout troop.

The Juneau troop is approved to meet at a local church and has never met in the Griffin home, Gore added.

Gore noted background checks are conducted on all Girl Scout staff and leaders, and if a troop is planning to meet in a volunteer’s home, a background check is also required for other adults living in that home. That would include spouses.
