Police said a Juneau woman was cited for negligent driving and failure to give immediate notice of an accident after rolling her vehicle at the Mendenhall Loop Road and Mall Road intersection Wednesday evening.
Sgt. Chris Gifford said in a release the Juneau Police Department received multiple reports of a single-vehicle rollover accident at the site around 7:30 p.m. Additional reports indicated the vehicle had left the scene.
Responding police officers located an upside-down pickup canopy in the middle of Mendenhall Loop Road, as well as “significant evidence” of damage from a Nissan vehicle, the release states.
Witnesses were able to provide a vehicle description and a license plate number, which police said was registered to a 1999 Nissan pickup.
Officers located the vehicle at a residence on James Boulevard, which is off of Loop Road and about half a mile away from the scene of the accident.
Police said an investigation revealed the Nissan had been driven by 22-year-old Kate Marie Iten.
Police said she was issued two citations, although court records online indicate she was only charged with failure to give immediate notice. That’s a misdemeanor offense.
Lt. David Campbell, a JPD spokesman, told the Empire alcohol was a factor in the incident, but Iten passed standard field sobriety tests and was not arrested for drunken driving.
