Man recovering from stab wounds in ICU

Posted: August 16, 2012 - 1:37pm  |  Updated: August 17, 2012 - 12:05am

A 20-year-old man who was stabbed early Thursday morning in Douglas is recovering from his injuries in the hospital’s intensive care unit, according to police.

Lt. David Campbell, a public information officer with the Juneau Police Department, said in an email exchange the victim is under observation at Bartlett Regional Hospital for superficial wounds.

The man suffered one stab wound to his left arm and another on the left side of his torso, Campbell said.

Police are not releasing his name.

Police said in an earlier statement they responded to the stabbing in the area of Crow Hill Drive in Douglas around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

An investigation revealed the two men got into a fight, which culminated with the stabbing.

Alcohol was involved, police said in the statement.

Police identified a suspect and is forwarding charges to the District Attorney’s office.

Since there was no arrest, JPD is not releasing the suspect’s name, Campbell said.

Wow! Another incident of

Wow! Another incident of somebody getting knifed. This kind of thing was pretty rare in the old days in Juneau. This new breed of young punks seems to be seriously lacking ethics.

Ban Knives

You know it was not the person wielding the knife that was at fault, it was the knife, we must ban all knives now. Just as guns are dangerous because they jump up and shoot people, we must now try to lobby the government to eliminate those pesky knives, or at least have a 5 day waiting period and background check to buy one or take a class on its safe use and I think they should all be registered.

JPD never ceases to amaze me

NO ARREST! I was awoken to these guys fighting down the street and threatening to cut a guys eye balls out and to JUST CUT HIM CUT HIM. After threatening a guy down the street they proceeded down to the parking lot in front of Orca Point Apartments and started physically fighting one another and threatening to cut each other up because “they’re from the hood.” These guys are supposed friends “buddies” is what the cop told me.

The cop who interviewed my neighbor and I told us there were “no victims here” that they were fighting amongst each other and he issued them a minor consuming.” Even after these punk kids told me they were going to come into my home (where I live with my 2 children) and cut my ears off and slit my throat and the cop was standing 2 feet from the guy. I asked the cop if he was just going to wait until it was too late and there was an actual victim or someone dies. He ignored me and shrugged his shoulders.

The cop argued with me about the threat, he didn’t believe me. Now I know why he all of the sudden decided he did believe me. Because they actually did what I told the cop they were going to do. Someone actually got stabbed. The cop in a hurry asked me to sign a citizen’s arrest form. As the cop was dashing to his car he had to have the last word and yell to my neighbor and I, that there “were still no victims here.”

I heard the sirens of the ambulance and actually walked up my street to see that there was someone injured on the ground. This incident could have been avoided had JPD decided to do their jobs and arrest these guys for Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace and threatening someone's life. They would have at least got to get away from their drunken selves.

These guys were “buddies” and they actually did stab one of them. He stabbed one of his own “friends” what makes you think he wouldn’t stab someone who is NOT his friend? I don’t think that they would hesitate to do it again, and now they have an open door to know that JPD will justify the stabbing because,”they were fighting amongst each other.” I don’t know when it became legal to threaten someone’s life and then actually try to do it. Earlier in the evening they did arrest another drunk guy in there area who wasn't being violent but, the cop told him he needed to go to sleep it off in 12 hour hold, the could have at least done that.

It doesn’t surprise me to hear that there was no arrest after these kids obviously wanted to just stab someone or anyone, makes me sick to stomach. This is yet another incident where JPD has failed to do their jobs. These aren’t cops, sorry to say. JPD is full of pedophiles, attempted murders and drug cops. JPD can’t make a routine traffic stop without first running down a light pole. Wipe the slate clean and get cops in here who actually want to protect the Juneau residence. The used-to-be-safe streets of Juneau have not been that in quite some time. Its sad to say.

Quit complaining

He just stabbed him a little bit. You need to stab'm a lot to get arrested. There's a legal threshold for nuanced stabbing.

Now if he said he's going to cut his eyeballs out did he say he was going to cut both of them out or just one? See - you have two eyeballs so you can spare one no big deal.

Truth

The newspaper states that the wounds were superficial..

His wounds were far from that, they were severe.

The stab the side of his chest was severe, going all the way through his diaphragm, and puncturing his stomach. he spent many hours in surgery. Doctor told us that it was a severe stab and he is a lucky boy and its going to take a while for recovery.

I can't believe the cops

I can't believe the cops didnt do anything about it.
Just shows how much our cops really care
I could hear those boy fighting as well and knocking on someones door saying if they didnt open it they were gonna kick it in.
and the cops didn't do anything about it.
Sad that the cops didnt do anything until someone got stabbed kinda sad if you ask me.
our cops are suppose to be there to protect our town not wait until someone gets hurts.
this town is going down hill.

smh

JPD could have prevented this! Those officers at the scene need to be fired. They didn't do their job, protect & serve! Protection being the first priority! The attackers were threatening to stab someone & JPD didn't make an arrest.....and then someone DOES get stabbed & they still don't make an arrest? What the....??!!?!!? JPD was right there! They never left the area! They neglected to protect our streets and a young man got attacked because of their negligence. He spent all of Thursday in ICU & is still in CCU! JPD officers, I hope your inner voice eats at you for the rest of your days knowing you seriously failed to protect our citizens & this is all your fault. Juneau residence doesn't rest easy knowing these men are still out on our streets!! My prayers to the victim of assault and others effect by this.
