JPD investigating gold theft at Last Chance Basin

An unknown prospector struck gold last week when he or she broke into an Alaska Travel Adventures shipping container at Last Chance Basin.

Juneau Police Department spokesman Lt. David Campbell said the suspect stole approximately $250 worth of gold, and caused about $500 worth of damage to the container. The incident was reported last Monday afternoon.

Police are still investigating the theft, and Campbell said JPD is not releasing more information at this time.

Alaska Travel Adventures, which hosts tours that feature gold panning lessons alongside Gold Creek, declined to comment on the case.
