The fire department is asking Juneau to help “Fill the Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The annual campaign kicks off Friday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Costco and Super Bear Supermarket areas, and Saturday, Sept. 1, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Firefighters will be out with fire trucks and fire boots taking any and all donations, Capital City Fire and Rescue said in a release.
CCFR says all of the money raised will stay in Alaska to help send children with muscular dystrophy to summer camp, as well as for support groups and to help patients purchase special equipment. Muscular dystrophy is a muscle disease that affects mobility and breathing.
The “Fill the Boot” campaign raised $5,000 last year in Juneau. It’s a national campaign that began in Boston in the 1950s.
