Grand jury indicts man accused of sex assault

A grand jury on Friday indicted a Juneau man for sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman who was sleeping over at his house after his birthday celebration, prosecutors say.

Frank W. Lee, who turned 60 last Monday, was indicted on one count of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of second-degree sexual assault. The latter charge is for allegedly knowingly engaging in the sexual act while the woman was incapacitated or unaware that a sexual act was being committed.

First-degree sexual assault is an unclassified felony that can carry up to 99 years in prison, and second-degree sexual assault is a class ‘B’ felony.

Court records show Lee appeared in Juneau Superior Court Tuesday for his arraignment and pleaded not guilty. Judge Louis Menendez scheduled a trial for December.

Lee is represented by the Public Defender Agency, and he is being held in custody on $100,000 bond.

Cowper was to give a speech directly to the Alaska Legislature discussing the specifics of his recommended cuts.
