Man accused of receiving drugs at the Glory Hole slated to plead guilty next week

Posted: September 23, 2012 - 12:11am

A man accused of receiving drugs inside a Mr. Potato Head toy at the Glory Hole earlier this year will likely be avoiding a trial.

Court records show a ‘change of plea’ hearing for Stephen Morton Dabney, 61, is scheduled for next Thursday in Juneau Superior Court.

Dabney’s attorney public defender Eric Hedland told Judge Philip Pallenberg during a hearing last week that a resolution had been reached in the case a while ago, but just hadn’t been calendared yet.

Prosecutors allege Dabney received a package that contained one ounce of heroin inside a Mr. Potato Head toy that was headed for the downtown shelter, according to charging documents. He was arrested Jan. 26 after law enforcement intercepted the package then conducted a controlled delivery.

Dabney resided at the Glory Hole at the time of his arrest, and volunteered as the night shelter manager there to earn his keep.

Hedland noted earlier that his client never opened the package and may not have known what was inside.

He pleaded not guilty in February, and he was scheduled to stand trial next month.

Mr. Potatohead was framed.

Mr. Potatohead was framed. He is clearly an innocent pawn in this diabolical drug trafficking scheme. I propose that the citizens of Juneau rise up and initiate a campaign with the slogan "FREE MR. POTATOHEAD !!!"
Anybody who is acquainted with Mr. Potatohead knows that he is an individual of unquestionable character who would never knowingly involve himself in such dastardly shenanigans.

Tubor a Tumor in Juneau Community

You obviously don't know Mr. Potato Head very well. He is a lynch pin of the underground drug trade. Send him down to Sunny Side; He deserves Lots-O' time to contemplate his misdeeds.

TBrakes, State your sources!

TBrakes,

State your sources! Mr. Potatohead has never been anything but an upstanding citizen. I know of many Juneauites who will vouch for his character. I find it awful that you would try to smear the name of such a wonderful individual.
