AWARE kicks off Major Gifts Campaign at Governor's House

Aiding Women in Abuse & Rape Emergencies (AWARE) kicked off a Major Gifts fundraising campaign Thursday at the Governor’s Mansion.

AWARE is working to raise $150,000 from the community to match dollar for dollar $150,000 from the Rasmuson Foundation, according to a statement from AWARE’s Executive Director Saralyn Tabachnick.

First Lady Sandy Parnell is serving as the Honorary Chair for the campaign cabinet and Marla Berg is serving as the General Chair.

The campaign will raise funds for the design and construction of an extended stay safe shelter for women and families leaving AWARE’s emergency domestic violence/sexual assault shelter. Forty community leaders serving on the campaign cabinet attended the kick-off event Thursday, and will be contacting community members for contributions through the month of October.

To date, AWARE has raised more than $3 million for the Extended Stay shelter, which will be built adjacent to AWARE’s emergency safe shelter. AWARE anticipates raising additional funds with grants and community support.

The Rasmuson Foundation has pledged to match funds raised by the community up to $150,000, enabling donors to double their gifts, according to the release.
