Two people have been arrested on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamine after authorities discovered an active meth lab inside a commercial storage facility in Hoonah.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation said in a dispatch that Gary D. Chamblin, 49, of Hoonah, and David B. Pierce, 36, of Oregon, were arrested in connection to operating the lab.
They were each charged with one count of second-degree drug misconduct for being in possession of methamphetamine precursors and listed chemicals with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, the release states. That’s a class ‘A’ felony that can be punishable by up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
They were arraigned in court in Hoonah where bail was set at $50,000, but they have since been transported to Juneau where they are being held at Lemon Creek Correctional Center, the release states.
The Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs (SEACAD) task force processed the lab on Thursday after the Hoonah Police Department requested their assistance.
Four SEACAD members arrived in Hoonah and removed processed methamphetamine, various precursors, listed chemicals and other items related to the manufacture of methamphetamine, the release states.
Court records show Chamblin has a criminal history in Hoonah dating back to 2001 that includes convictions for failure to register as a sex offender, disorderly conduct, violating conditions of release, assault in the fourth degree, interfering with a report of a crime involving domestic violence as well as two driving violations for speeding and driving without a valid license.
Court records indicate Pierce does not have a criminal record in Alaska. Assistant District Attorney Angie Kemp said during the court hearing that Pierce has prior felony convictions out of Oregon for drug-related offenses, and that she is working on getting the court those certified documents.

Hoonah can rest a bit better now that repeat offender is off the streets. I heard a disgruntled user turned in lab guys and she should be the next to go. Village residents know who she is. I hope long jail sentences await these two morons.
Bag'em, book'em, convict'em, lock'em up and lose the keys
@west4ever: Agreed, you are right on target.
I am all for innocent until proven guilty and I do want these 2 scum bags to get a fair trial. However, when convicted (no plea deals PLEASE) they need to go to jail and stay there for the 20 years.
Sadly, when they get out (in 20 years I hope), they will be remanded to probation here in Juneau and we will have 2 more scumbags to contend with.
What's up with this, Alaska Bureau of Investigation? I have not heard of this bureau. Have they been around for some time? Is this staffed by the Troopers?
This is really good news.
This is really good news. Hoonah is a small town full of nice people. They don't need this kind of crap going on in their midst. I hope these people, if found guilty, will end up doing some serious time. I would love to see photos of these guys. My bet would be that they look like bums.
"From"
Of, not from, was used in report. I believe Gary has lived in Hoonah over ten years and he is a "White Man", if that' what your were really referring to.
West4ver
Actually, you should check out Gary's specific offense was, that is what I was referring to; you are otherwise hung up on other things or reading is too hard for you.
Alaska - the place Outsiders run to to get away from trouble.
I hate when reports have them listed "from......"
Hoonah" neither of these guys were or are FROM Hoonah, though I'll say that I am glad that the lab is GONE, and from reports I have heard there was enough of the chemicals in the storage unit to blow half of Hoonah away if it should have ignited.
Neither of the men listed were "popular" by character, but some knew what they did, not me thankfully, I'm HAPPY THAT THEY ARE OUT OF HOONAH, and chances are, NEVER TO RETURN! Amen
Gary
He has worked for the cold storage for over 5 years so he was a Hoonah resident. Maybe not born and raised there but he was no newcomer. And yes, glad they were caught and no one was hurt.
Wow, the guy was a child
Wow, the guy was a child molester as well. He sounds to me to be an individual of very low character. Hopefully, he will get slapped with some serious time.
Just remember, in SE Alaska,
Just remember, in SE Alaska, if you weren't born here, your just a tourist. Ive been here 20+ years, longer than anywhere I've ever lived, but I'm still not considered "from here"
another one....
....for the brain trust archives. Did they really think in a place as tiny as Hoonah something like a meth lab wasn't going to go unnoticed?
I'm with the rest on lock 'em up, throw away the key.
Meth is serious, serious bad news.
My question
How can someone be stupid enough to choose to do meth? Is there anyone who hasn't heard how bad it is? I'd just as soon step in front of a bus or drink Drano - the results are about as guaranteed.
Meth dealers are lower than scum ethics. But meth USERS are lower than scum IQ.
