This photograph shows Henry Denny Sr. at Saxman teaching Tlingit youth about a totem pole and its corresponding history in August 1941. The photograph was taken as a public relations effort to document the Civilian Conservation Corps federal Works Relief Program when Tlingit and Haida carvers created Southeast Alaska’s totem parks.
