Lions Club hosting annual BBQ for diabetes

November is Diabetes Awareness Month

On Nov. 3, the Mendenhall Flying Lions Club will be holding its seventeenth annual barbecue and auction at G.W. Teal, in the Mendenhall Mall, to benefit the Juneau Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and local Lions Club projects.

The barbecue starts at noon and will feature smoked pork ribs, potato salad and beans for a $15 per plate donation. Takeout plates, racks of ribs and sides will also be available. The Lions will serve until the food is gone.

At 6:00 p.m., the Lions Club will auction items donated by area businesses, artists, and friends.

Last year’s event raised over $14,000 for the Juneau Chapter.

The Lions Club has raised over $125,000 total in the previous 16 years and aims to make this 17th auction the best to date.

Funds raised helps ADA send kids from Southeast Alaska to diabetes camp, conduct health fairs throughout the Southeast region and send out family resource guides.

If anyone would like to donate to the auction, they can contact Chair Lion Neil Atkinson at 723-9168.
