The emergency housing shelter at Centenniall Hall for displaced residents of the Gastineau Apartments fire will close today, but volunteers will remain at the location for referral services.
Shelter volunteer Brad Wilmot said in a 10:30 a.m. phone interview that he did not believe anyone stayed overnight at the shelter Tuesday evening.
The dozens of cots, which were placed in the ballrooms of Centennial Hall, will be removed sometime today, he said.
Volunteers will remain on hand to offer housing and financial referral assistance through the end of the day. It was not known how long those services will continue to be offered at that location.
The American Red Cross of Alaska set up the shelter in Centennial Hall on Monday night after the fire at the downtown apartment complex displaced some 40 to 50 residents.
