GCI to buy KATH-TV Juneau

General Communications Inc. GCI announced today its agreed purchase of KATH-TV in Juneau. The telecommunications company made the purchase through its Denali Media Holdings subsidiary.

GCI will purchase the Juneau stations from Juneau-based North Star Broadcasting.

KATH-TV can be found over the air in downtown Juneau and Douglas on HD digital channel 5, UHF Frequency 35, and on GCI HD cable channel 652 and

GCI cable channel 15.

Former KTUU News Director John Tracy was picked as a lead consultant as GCI rebuilds and rebrands the KATH news department. Tracy is a partner in Bradley Reid & Associates Public Relations firm.

The deal is contingent on customary conditions and approval from the Federal Communications Commission. Final approval is anticipated by April of 2013.
