Members of the public look at an exhibit on the U.S.S. Juneau on display during a reception at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum on Saturday. A Naval officer stationed in Juneau, Lt. Cmdr. Miguel Vasquez, gave a presentation on the lost cruiser during the reception, and a Perseverance Theatre actor, Bryan Crowder, read aloud letters written by a U.S.S. Juneau sailor, William George Meeker Jr. The U.S.S. Juneau was lost during World War II, and this year marks the 70th anniversary of its sinking. On Tuesday, Nov. 13, a remembrance ceremony will be held at the U.S.S. Juneau memorial site near the Mount Roberts Tramway off South Franklin Street at 12:15 p.m. A reception at the downtown Visitor’s Center will follow the ceremony.
