CBJ hashes study on saleable city land

Juneau’s Planning Commission takes up the question of which city lands to release for public sale.

City and Borough of Juneau Lands and Resources presented a study to the commission for recommendation Tuesday. The commission had not come to a decision by the time of the writing of this article.

Lands focused on Pederson Hill and Switzer Creek, proposed residential areas near Auke Bay. CBJ staff recommended developing Switzer in the near term and Pederson in the longer term.

Master planning, permitting, infrastructure development and platting a subdivision for 100 dwellings is expected to be $56,000 per unit for Pederson Hill and $68,000 for Switzer Creek.

The commission also heard a re-zone petition for Pederson Hill, AME2010 0008. With city water and sewer, the area could shift from single-family and duplex zoning to multifamily zoning. Sewer to the area was complete in 2010.
