Woman sexually assaulted near downtown

JUNEAU — At approximately 1:26 p.m., Saturday, a 37-year-old Juneau woman reported to police that she had been sexaully assaulted earlier in the day in the woods uphill from the downtown Juneau cruise ship docks. The victim was taken to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The victim identified her assailant as 21-year-old Kevin Arnold SLATS, also a Juneau resident. SLATS was located in the downtown area and interviewed. A search warrant was obtained and SLATS was taken to BRH for evidence gathering pursuant to the search warrant.

JPD officers located the area of the alleged assault and processed the area for evidence.

Later that day, at approximately 6:00 p.m, SLATS was arrested for Sexual Assault in the 1st Degree, an Unclassified Felony. SLATS was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held on No Bail.

The victim and SLATS were acquaintances prior to the assault. Alcohol appears to be a factor in this incident.

The investigation is continuing.
