Wildlife troopers cite man for trying to take deer decoy in Hoonah

Juneau Alaska Wildlife Troopers say they issued a summons on a man for attempting to take an artificial deer and cited him for failing to validate a deer harvest tag.

Troopers said in a dispatch they issued the summons and $160 citation for Ricky L. Towery, 53, in Hoonah on Saturday.

An investigation showed Towery attempted to take a deer decoy on the Hoonah road system with the use of artificial light, the dispatch said.

Further investigation showed Towery had taken a deer earlier in the day and that he failed to validate his deer harvest tag immediately after taking it and before leaving the kill site, the release states.

Towery is scheduled to be arraigned in Hoonah District Court on Dec. 12.
