Police, fire to be honored at 6-day Christmas festival

Juneau Fest 2012 starts early next month

Posted: November 28, 2012 - 1:03am

A “spirit of giving” has broken out in Juneau, according to Regis and Jody Andrews, referring to the upcoming Juneau Fest 2012.

Sam Dalin, chaplin for the Juneau Police Department and Capital City Fire/Rescue, is in large part responsible for bringing about the vision for Juneau Fest 2012.

With help from his friends, here and from the Lower 48, Dalin has rented out Centennial Hall for the event slated to run from Dec. 9 to Dec. 14, six nights to celebrate and release the spirit of Christmas and declare the “Good News of Christmas” over the entire region.

Local business owners, business managers and employees at some establishments have wanted to be part of the giving outbreak by donating artisan collectibles, gift certificates, toys, turkeys, and cold weather accessories.

Independent business owners and generous individuals have donated recreation packages and big ticket giveaway items, and one local business has donated all the transportation to and from the event for anyone needing a safe and warm ride.

Pick-up and drop-off will be at every school in Juneau and Douglas. No one will be left out.

Children of all ages will be treated to free popcorn, cotton candy and candy canes, before and after playing in the giant Jump House. There will also be children’s dance contests, hockey puck in the net contests, Xtratuf contests and many other activities. Christmas musicals and Christmas music and so much more will make this Christmas season one to remember.

So far, more than $25,000 in gifts and scholarships have been brought in for this free event, and more is promised.

Juneau Fest 2012 will also be honoring Juneau’s finest: firefighters on Dec. 11 and law enforcement on Dec. 12, with special Remington rifle and Glock handgun giveaways.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for preregistration.

"Fest 2012 will also be

"Fest 2012 will also be honoring Juneau’s finest: firefighters on Dec. 11 and law enforcement on Dec. 12, with special Remington rifle and Glock handgun giveaways"

The gift that will keep on giving? I think some people have their head screwed on backwards.

Just to shed some light on what this event really is...

http://www.revival.com/great-awakening-juneau-alaska.4309.1.htm

Juneau Fest 2012 is an amazing event that we are conducting at Centennial Hall Convention Center in Juneau, Alaska. The last time that we were in Juneau was in the early nineties and the LORD did great things. A woman that was bound in a wheel chair was healed and people all over Juneau heard about what Jesus did. As a result, many were saved, set free, and filled with the Holy Ghost. It's time that we go back and invite every household to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The dates are December 9th-14th; it's just weeks away! Please, view our ad in the Capital Weekly newspaper by clicking here. Help us impact the capital of Alaska by sowing a generous seed today. Click here and mark your gift for Alaska. Thank you for prayers and support.

Geez, and I was quite interested until I read your sales pitch.

Shoulda left the healed wheelchair out and i would have gone.

If it sounds too good to be true...

Deceptive advertising at its finest. If you are thinking of attending please go to this web site to see the real mission of this event. http://www.revival.com/revival.xhtml

Fabulous!

This is absolutely wonderful! Nice to see that some people still know the true meaning of Christmas! What time does this event start each night??? The pre-registration is 5pm...so what time do we bring our children?

God works in mysterious ways...and he truly can heal...I believe the story of the woman in the wheelchair, because I believe that with Jesus, anything is possible. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

to be clear

I am certainly not attending. This group is very deceiving and way off the deep end.

If it looks like a rat.

I smelled a rat as soon as the ad showed up in CCW. Using deception and from what I gather, coercive solicitation practices, these philanderers’ are running the gamut here in Juneau. Don’t be fooled or deceived. Google JUNEAUFEST 2012 and follow the links. The Juneau link has been deleted but you can click through to Revival Ministries. But, what I don’t get is how the Chaplin for the Juneau Police and Fire Department is promoting this as well. Where’s the separation? Be afraid, be very afraid!

Yes No Sponsor on the Advertising

I was very baffled when there was not sponsor on the advertising.
When I asked someone who was handing out flyers all they said was the Chaplin for Capital City Police and Firefighters had the idea. I think it is great to spread your message whatever it is you believe, but be upfront about it. This doesn't seem to represent Christianity to me. We will give to you if you allow us to hold you hostage to hear what we have to say.

Protect Juneau's Children

It is one thing for us adults to be "handled" by a master crowd manipulator such as Rodney Howard-Browne, the "guest" speaker at JuneauFest 2012, but when the target of this emotional manipulation is children as young as 5 years old, so mom & dad will "donate"... it just is... well... devoid of soul.

get a grip, folks

The GOOD NEWS of Christmas is just that - the Gospel. It's a Christian thing. So is Christmas.

Nobody's holding anyone hostage, akmeemsak.

Johnny, check your constitution; there is no separation mentioned.

Our nation was founded on Christian principles by Christians. We came here to escape religious persecution so let us (ALL)be free to honor the Christmas season.

Let's focus on the "good news" part, guys. It's GOOD that this event is happening. Let it be GOOD. Come and see the smiles and the laughter. It's GOOD to be joyful.

Has nothing to do with Police & Fire

Juneau Empire should definitely do a followup story on this and do some digging. This Juneau Fest is actually part of controversial minister Rodney Howard Browne "Great Awakening" tour. Google his name and see what others say about him.

This has NOTHING to do with our police officers and firefighters. JPD's online "Ask a Dispatcher" indicates that a chaplain that volunteers for them and the fire department is the only connection, and they had been invited..that's all.

Nothing the organizers have printed or released for information explains who they are, or their true intent, instead they conceal themselves by using the saying this is to honor police officers and firefighters.

guest speaker is "God's Bartender" ??

The guest speaker is not well received in many/most Christian circles and claims to be "God's Bartender" dispensing out the Holy Spirit at his meetings. Not just a festive time celebrating our community and heros here...
